Alexandra McKay is an award-winning writer with an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Guelph. Her work explores themes of modern hope, middle spaces, and the queerness of being human. Before pursuing creative writing, Alexandra built a decade-long career as a Senior Strategic Copywriter for some of North America's leading brands (Oracle, RBC, Loblaws, and others).
Her short story, “Everything Belongs,” won second place in Prairie Fire’s McNally Robinson Booksellers contest for short fiction, and her fiction, poetry, and essays have appeared in , Funicular, The Globe & Mail, Pinhole Poetry, and more. As a novelist, Alexandra's work uses modes of deep interiority and observation to confront concerns of consciousness, memory, and philosophical intent.
Alexandra is a reader for BRICK, A Literary Journal and is on the Poetry Editorial Board for PRISM International. She is a fiction fellow at the Vermont Studio Centre and her work has been supported by the Ontario Arts Council. She lives in Toronto with her husband and two children and is currently querying her first novel.
